Duane Keith Davis, also known as Keefe D, was arrested on September 29, 2023 for his alleged role in the murder of rap legend Tupac Shakur in 1996¹. Keefe D, a reputed member of the South Side Crips gang, had previously confessed to being in the car that shot Tupac in multiple interviews and a memoir². He claimed that his nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, was the one who pulled the trigger, but Anderson was killed in an unrelated shooting
Keefe D also alleged that Sean “Diddy” Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records and a rival of Tupac and Death Row Records, had offered him $1 million to kill Tupac and Death Row CEO Suge Knight.
However, he said that he never received the money and that Diddy had no involvement in the actual shooting⁴. Diddy has denied any connection to Tupac’s murder and dismissed the rumors as false².
Tupac was shot on September 7, 1996, while riding in a BMW with Knight after attending a Mike Tyson fight in Las Vegas. He died six days later at the age of 25. His murder remains one of the most notorious unsolved cases in music history. Keefe D’s arrest came after Las Vegas police reopened the investigation in 2018, following his public admissions.
Lieutenant Jason Johansson said that Keefe D’s statements provided “additional information” that led to his indictment by a grand jury¹.
Keefe D, who is 58 years old, faces charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and attempted murder. He is currently being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center. His arraignment is scheduled for October 13, 2023. If convicted, he could face life imprisonment or the death penalty.
